Barry Edson

Barry Edson has practised primarily personal injury law since 1982. He has successfully represented  thousands of injured individuals at every level of court in Ontario and  has acted as counsel on thousands of personal injury and disability claims before the Superior Court of Justice and the Financial Services Commission of Ontario.

In 1998 Barry made headlines as counsel for Raffaele Cugliari in Cugliari v. White, a major motor vehicle injury case before the Ontario Court of Appeal. The court’s decision scored a significant victory for plaintiffs and cost the insurance industry hundreds of millions of dollars .This case established Barry as a leading personal injury and disability lawyer in Ontario.

Barry spent 10 years as Managing Partner at one of  Ontario's leading  boutique personal injury firms before establishing EdsonLegal . He has also acted as counsel on personal injury , disability  , life and critical illness insurance matters to several law firms in the Greater Toronto Area. Barry opened Edson Legal in 2008 to provide outstanding legal services to injured individuals. Together with his team, he also counsels and mentors other lawyers and paralegals on personal injury litigation and disability claims and has been an invited lecturer  at seminars organized by the Law Society of Upper Canada and other professional bodies.

Barry attended undergraduate studies  at  York University, where he was  president of the student union. He earned his LL.B. from the University of Ottawa and was called to the Ontario Bar in 1982. He is a member of the Canadian Bar Association, The Advocates’ Society, the Toronto Lawyers Association and the Ontario Trial Lawyers Association. A former law course director at York University, he has been invited to lecture at conferences for the Law Society of Upper Canada and The Advocates’ Society.

Barry is married with three children and enjoys travel, history, politics and music.

Mai K. Nguyen

Mai Nguyen assists Edson Legal with personal injury law representation as an outside service provider. She also practises civil litigation, family law and immigration law. She is a former navy officer.

Mai has a B.A. from McMaster University and earned her LL.B. at Osgoode Hall Law School. She was called to the Ontario Bar in 2005. Mai is fluent in Vietnamese.
